My work is an abstract representation of space and astronomical objects. It is a fictional depiction of, celestial bodies and ultimately, an alternative understanding in place of the Big Bang Theory, in which a central power source is currently controlling and binding the entire universe. The title of the series is “Space Codex.” Among the individual paintings there is “Heart of the Universe,” “Supernova,” “Power Core,” and “Portal.” Each of paintings are meant to be seen as a symbolic figure rather than the actual object that they are trying to represent. This linguistic style has some similarities to what early astrology books and documents contained in terms of illustrations.
This body of work was originally inspired by a song called “Symptom of the Universe” from Black Sabbath’s album Sabotage and also based on basic astronomy. Abstract expressionist elements as well as color field and steampunk ideology are present in my pieces.
These works were developed to create a new perspective of our world and the mysteries of outer space. The fictional objects depicted are sketched as mechanomorphic figures that are conveyed in specific color patterns in a similar way to color field paintings by Mark Rothko. The figures I create are also influenced by the mechanical dysfunction/function previously addressed by Francis Picabia and Mark Rothko.
I wish to trigger a sense of curiosity and intrigue to the viewer with the objects I am presenting them in the same way as if one is exploring the universe inside a spaceship and venturing to find newer and stranger worlds.
